Scene of the Crime
21 September 2016 – 21:30
After finishing off at the diner, Adria and Tartarus went to investigate what remained of Hades’ warehouse. They found the scene cordoned off by police tape, although it appeared that the authorities had finished their own investigations at the scene and had left the area unguarded.
Tartarus quickly cast a spell to ensure their activities would be untraceable before the two mages started to look around. After picking through what remained of the burnt-out warehouse, they came to the conclusion that something had been taken from the building before the fire.
They also discovered the remains of a leather biker glove, likely left behind by the arsonist, expecting it to be destroyed in the fire. Fortunately for the two mages, a piece of metal sheeting had fallen and protected the glove from the worse of the flames.
After Tartarus had taken what he needed for a ritual from the glove, he passed it to Adria so that she could follow up with more conventional methods of investigation.
Dead Men Tell No Tales… Or Do They?
21 September 2016 – 22:30
Later that evening Tartarus conducted a scrying ritual for the owner of the glove and found himself observing a meeting between a group of teens conversing with several armed men and a figure that appeared to be warded from scrying. The teens and the blurred individual spoke back and forth before he abruptly had his guards gun the boys down.
Undeterred, Tartarus contacted the ghost of the arsonist and learned that he was hired by Mr Cheng – the Asian man in the suit – to burn down the warehouse and take some strange looking box. They were told not to look inside, but he did anyway, but only saw some strange looking blade. He had no idea why it was so valuable. When the teen had asked Mr Cheng about it, that’s when he and his friends were gunned down.
Although Mr Cheng always had a handful of thugs with him, the ghost felt that it was Cheng that was the real threat. Something about how he moved seemed to remind the arsonist of a caged predator at a zoo.
Food For Thought
22 September 2016 – 11:30
The next day Tartarus visited the famed Alabaster Maiden, an award-winning Chinese restaurant in Seattle’s International District. After enjoying a delicious meal and the appropriate words, Tartarus was able to arrange a meeting with Mr Cheng for later that evening.
As he left the restaurant, Tartarus bumped into Aiko, who told him that he would only find pain within the walls of the Maiden, and he would do best to stay clear of that place.
The Curious Case of Mister Conway
22 September 2016 – 12:00
Elsewhere Adria checked in on Mr Conway and discovered evidence that his mind had been damaged in some way, with bits and pieces of his memories missing.
To confirm her analysis, Adria visited a nearby aged care facility to compare the minds of patients known to have dementia or Alzheimer’s to what she had discovered with Mr Conway. While their mental states were similar, it appeared that Mr Conway’s memories were progressively being eaten away by something.
